TWO TOP TRAFFIC TIPS
- Graham Hamer -
There are three golden rules to Internet success...
traffic, traffic and traffic!
Because traffic-generation has been hailed as a black art,
so-called Internet 'gurus' are making fortunes selling
cheap web-based 'magic formula' pages for anything up to
$150 a view. Meanwhile, back on planet earth, the rest of
us struggle to get surfers to visit our domains.
But it doesn't have to be like that. If traffic generation
is approached in a methodical, business-like manner, you
need never be short of visitors again.
One of the problems that face us as Internet Marketers is
that the Web is an ever-changing environment. The
promotional techniques that worked a few years (or even
months) ago cannot always be relied on to work today. So
we, too, have to be flexible.
Take, for example FFA pages which, a short while ago, were
the 'essential' new tool to promote your site. Today, they
have ceased to serve their original purpose of getting
visitors to view your promotional ads. On the other hand,
savvy netrepreneurs use them in a different way.
I no longer submit my ads to FFA pages and classified ad
sites - I choose to OWN my FFA sites. Then, every time
someone submits an ad to my site, I send them a
confirmation which includes my own promotional message. At
the same time I get my links on thousands of other pages,
which brings me improved popularity with the search
engines.
And that leads us directly to the flavor of the day with
search engines - LINK POPULARITY. The more sites that are
linked to yours, the higher up the search engine rankings
you will climb. Forget all the 'old' rubbish about meta
tags and optimization, today your time is better spent
getting links elsewhere. Build a good site with good
content, then automate your site optimization with a
resource like Search Engine Blaster which you can find at
Search Engine Blaster. This will leave you more time
to get external links to your site.
Here's what Dennis Gaskill, the creator and owner of
Boogie Jack's, has to say about external links...
"My site is in the top 1% of the most linked-to-sites
on the Internet according to websmostlinked.com. It serves
about 750,000 page views per month. Less than 35% of my
traffic comes from search engines. That means over 65% of
my traffic comes from links or a bookmark, and I do have
good search engine rankings for several keywords, so it's
not balanced that way because of bad rankings."
That's how valuable links can be!
Here are Two Top Tips for getting lots of external sites
linked to yours:-
1. There is a tool called Messageboard Blaster that
will post your promotional ads to multiple messageboards.
You can get details here:
Message Board Blaster
If you keep your Message board postings up-to-date, you'll
suddenly find that your search engine rakings have
improved!
Why?
Because the search engine spiders are not selective. To
them, a message board is a Web site (which indeed it is)
so any external links they find there are reported back
and improve your own site ranking. The fact that you can
blast over 500 sites with your site URL in just a few
minutes, makes MessageBoard Blaster an almost
indispensable tool. What other way do you know of getting
500 external sites to link to yours for just a few minutes
work?
2. Writing articles (like this one) is also a
powerful way of improving your rankings with the search
engines. There are thousands of ezines and newsletters
across the Internet. They all publish articles, and
editors are constantly seeking good content to provide
fresh information for their subscribers.
At the end of every article is a byline (a resource box)
where you, as the author, briefly introduce yourself and
include a link to your own site. Not only does this
provide more visitors to your site it, if you are prepared
to commit to writing one article a week, or a month and
have your articles syndicated, you will improve your
search engine rankings too; because your article (with
your URL) will appear automatically on other people's web
sites. For syndication details, take a look at:
http://www.certificate.net/
Many people are afraid to write articles because they
think you need a special talent. Not true! You don't have
to be a best selling author to write a few words about
your hobby, business or passion.
If you are reasonably literate, you can learn the 'art' of
short article writing by reading examples of other
people's works. Get a feel for short, punchy writing. With
practice you will be able to write a solid and readable
article, so start writing now!
There are many ezine article repositories. Here are just
three (in addition to certificate.net)...
http://ezinearticles.com/
http://www.ideamarketers.com/
http://www.web-source.net/
And don't forget that one of the benefits of writing ezine
articles is that it gets your name known. You start to
become a 'recognized authority'; an expert, if you like.
So bear in mind that most ezine repositories ask you to
provide keywords for your article. In addition to the
usual keywords that cover the subject matter, don't forget
to add your own name! Let the search engines pick up on
that, too!
Blast those Message Boards, and sharpen your pencil. It's
time to get your site recognized!
